They received the same pay as an NCO of the same grade but were considered a half step in authority subordinate to NCOs of the same grade and superior to all lesser grades. Web1 Dec 2013 · The thing is, I regularly see technicians in regular rifle companies, and I just have a hard time believing that if, say, a technician 4th grade (sergeant) shouts an order at a private, or gives a command during a maneuver that his word will go as moot since he, as the regulations even put it, "have no authority to issue commands or orders."
